HOW TO BECOME A CERTIFIED DEMENTIA PRACTITIONER
A Certified Dementia Practioner (CDP) is a person who has met the highest standard in Alzheimer’s and Dementia education. They are certified by the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners and the International Council of Certified Practitioners (NCCDP/ICCDP), NCCDP/ICCDP.
Take the path to certification as a CDP with this Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Seminar, one of the requirements for individuals pursuing CDP certification in order to qualify through the NCCDP.

If you would like a superior education in Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care, even if you are not interested in becoming a CDP, this is the course for you. Certificate of Attendance (CEU’s, in most states) are available after completion of the seminar.

Anyone can attend the NCCDP Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Seminar. If you are pursuing certification as a CDP®, you must complete the NCCDP Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Seminar. Then you have 30 days from the moment you complete the seminar to submit your application to NCCDP and receive your Certification as a Dementia Practitioner. The organization, NCCDP ensures a high standard in Alzheimer’s and Dementia education through the Certified Dementia Practitioner certification process. The CDP certification demonstrates the achievement of specialized training in the areas of Alzheimer’s and Dementia care.


COURSE GOALS & OBJECTIVES
  • To provide fundamental education on dementia and dementia care         
  • To enhance the quality of life of dementia patients/clients through education
  • Foster sensitivity and respect for people living with dementia       
  • To provide sensitive approaches for personal care
  • To teach communication techniques to successfully establish a trusting relationship  
  • To enhance the level of purposeful engagement in the person’s day
  • To provide education of end of life issues
PARTICIPANTS WILL
  • Have an better understanding of Dementia
  • Identify common causes of aggressive, repetitive and sundown behavior in older adults
  • Describe behaviors/care interventions that may be used to prevent, reduce or eliminate difficult care situations
  • Describe the challenges related to caregiver stress and utilize stress reduction techniques
  • Learn alternative activity interventions that are success oriented
  • Receive certificate of attendance in seminar

GROUP DISCOUNTS

Corporate Group Discount: 
A corporate group, consisting of 10 or more members, qualify for a discounted rate per person on their Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) applications, if the company wishes to pay for their staff members’ certifications. To receive the discounted rate, payment must be made all at once for all applicants via a company credit card/check. 
 
Renewals: 
Certifications are good for two years.  Renewal fees are at a discounted rate as long as they are still an employee of the company, and their company is paying for their renewal fees.  If they are not, they will be removed from the group and required to renew at the individual renewal rate.   

Association Discounts: 
When the seminar is given for a professional organization/association at an association meeting, event, or conference, participants are eligible to receive an Association discount.

HOSTING DISCOUNT:
In exchange for a facility’s hospitality, we are pleased to offer tuition scholarship for 3 staff members to attend.

Meet Your Instructor
Carlyn Lenfestey, MPT, CDP, CADDCT
Founder and CEO of 
A Better Way- Dementia Care Solutions, LLC

Carlyn is a dedicated physical therapist with over 20 years of experience, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences and a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from the University of New England. For more than a decade, she has been a Certified Dementia Care Practitioner and Trainer. Her journey into dementia care began when her grandfather was diagnosed, and she watched her grandmother take on the role of caregiver. Over the years, as her remaining three grandparents were also diagnosed, Carlyn developed a deep commitment to helping caregivers.

Having cared for countless patients with dementia, Carlyn understands the struggles both personal and professional caregivers face. She has provided training and support to both groups, ensuring that caregivers are knowledgeable, equipped, and empowered. Driven by the belief that people with dementia deserve lives filled with joy and purpose, Carlyn is passionate about creating a better way to care for and support both individuals with dementia and those who care for them.
