A new weekly conversation for dementia caregivers about what behavior is really trying to tell you, and what actually helps.
There is a moment almost every dementia caregiver knows. Something shifts. A refusal, a question asked for the fifth time, a flash of anger that seems to come from nowhere. And underneath the moment itself is a quieter, harder question: what am I supposed to be understanding from this?
That question is the reason Navigating Dementia exists.
It's a new podcast from A Better Way: Dementia Care Solutions, and the trailer just went live. This isn't a lecture series, and it isn't a highlight reel of clinical tips pulled out of context. It's a conversation, the kind where someone sits with you in that moment instead of rushing past it, and helps you figure out what it's actually telling you. Twenty-five years of clinical experience is in the room, but it's there to serve the conversation, not lead it.
Why This Podcast, Why Now
Most of what gets written about dementia behavior treats it as something to manage. Redirect the wandering. Distract from the agitation. Get through the shower without a fight. Those tools have their place, but they skip a step that matters more than any of them.
Before you decide what to do, you have to understand what you are seeing.
That is the whole premise behind the Wheel of Function Framework™, the lens this podcast is built around. Behavior is never the problem. It is always the signal, coming from somewhere in the person’s emotional world, their senses, their physical body, their cognition, or their environment. Navigating Dementia exists to slow that moment down enough to actually hear the signal, instead of just reacting to the behavior on top of it.
What You Will Hear
Each episode starts with something real. A Tuesday morning. A husband who will not get dressed. A mother asking for her own mother, forty years gone. From there, the episode follows one honest question all the way through, the kind of question that does not have a tidy answer but does have a way forward.
This will not be five takeaways crammed into twenty minutes. Every episode holds one idea and gives it room to actually land.
Who This Is For
This podcast is for anyone standing inside the daily reality of dementia care. Family care partners trying to make sense of a person who is changing in front of them. Friends and neighbors who want to understand instead of just watching from a distance. Professionals, CNAs, activities directors, nurses, who want language for what they are already sensing in the room but have not had the framework to name.
Nobody starts this job as an expert. You are not supposed to already know how to do this. That is what the conversation is for.
There Is Always a Better Way to Listen
The trailer for Navigating Dementia is live now, and the first three episodes are on their way soon. If you have ever sat with this quiet question, what am I supposed to do with this, this podcast was built for you. While you're there, don't forget to subscribe.
